The idea competition holsters is to allow for the fastest possible weapon draw. This is about speed.
The standard holster or magazine pouch is just a pouch on your belt, normally a squared, straight up, Velcro or leather w/ button enclosed pouch. Police officers and old school gun owners will carry this version. The stated reason is that they need to be strapped down for security reasons. They do not want to have their guns or magazines falling out, dropping out, or being taken away from them.
